View Full Version : Lcd or Plasma?
Hi to everyone. Which Tv is best Lcd or Plasma?. I own a Sony 40in Lcd, ideal for video games. What do other user's think?. Nce
Samsung TV's are currently the best.
If you have a under 37" LCD its great. But if you have a 40" LCD the quality is poor. So Plasma over 37" and LCD under 37" is my opinoin.

samsung lcd are alright but if you get plasma hd tv it be best
Well if you get a 28" plasma tv its excatly the same to a 28" LCD tv!
I don't agree with cornet1994 statement, saying that Lcd's above 37in's are poor quality. My Sony Bravia 40in HD lcd has a amazing picture quality whether your watching a digital source or hi def. Also playing xbox360 or PS3 games through my tv, the picture is amazing too. Nce

i would say Plasma, only because every lcd i've had has broken
although my ps3 does look good on a lcd
In my opinion plasma TV's display a better picture than LCD. I've always bought LCD's as I thought they were better and I've owned the Toshiba 32WLT66 32" HD LCD and then a Samsung LE37R88BD 37" HD LCD TV. I've now got the Panasonic TH-42PX80B 42" HD Plasma (http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/558137/index.html;jsessionid=0a6d28f630d6b1d1c76bb67b4486 b614b01d69864c40.e38Ka38Sax4TbO0QbNaRbNmMbhb0n6jAm ljGr5XDqQLvpAe) and in comparison with the Samsung 37", the Panasonic has a better picture when displaying HD content (Gaming & Movies) with far better blacks. Standard definition Digital TV is Fantastic on the Panasonic, considerably better than the Samsung which in my opinion has one of the poorest SD quality pictures I've seen. Also, Samsung TV's always seem to have poor sound along with LG.
Overall, I think Sony have the best LCD's (Bravia 40") and Panasonic & Pioneer have the best Plasma's.

Everybody have their own minds of which one is better.
I prefer LCD's.

Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread it's good to see different opinions people have. I was talking with a friend the other day and he told me that plasma's burn out after 6-8 years how right he is i'm not sure, if anyone one knows different please let me know thanks, plus i heard that if you pause a film or tv for too long on a plasma it leaves a ghost image of what you paused forever. P.s i'd still rather have a lcd than a plasma, as i love my video games. Nce
The freezed image is like on every other tv. But the annoying thing is, if you've been watching a porn movie, the rude bits are frozen forever :o.............
And the tv burned out :o
:o Frozen image's of porn, i'll have to buy a plasma just to try that one!!!!. Ho ho.
On a serious note, if people don't know already Lcd's use a backlight system, if you go to your settings & turn the backlight off or to a low setting, this increases the screen to last longer. If you keep it to a high setting your screen will burn out faster.

It only freezes if you leave it on a still picture ;)

But does it leave a ghost image after you resume play or does it disappear?. I've been told if you leave it on pause for a long time that's when it leaves a ghostly image. True or false?

I'm sure plasma's last a lot longer than 6-8 years. Mine is rated at 100,000 hours, which means it should last 42 years if watched for 6.5 hours a day.

Permanent image retention (Burn-in) was a problem with earlier plasma's, but the latest models don't have this problem, although they can still suffer from temporary image retention which disappears almost immediately. LCD and CRT can also suffer from TIR if a static image is left long enough.

True and karl has answered your question in more detail
:)Thanks Karl for the information, i now stand corrected & i shall correct my friend also. Thanks Andy

49" Toshiba LCD, looks great with the PS3 specailly Blu-Ray's. But I wouldn't say there's alot of difference between them, main problem I found with plasma's was abit of ghosting, though you get it with white on black on LCD's faintly too.
