Hello all users/mods/admins,
What are you views on the reputation mod for vBulletin forums?
Basically what it is; is a mod for vBulletin forums where say a user has helped you (Or not in some cases) Then you can give them positive/negative reputation?
I think this is a very good idea as i see alot of people helping around the forums and it's just something to show for it really?
Thanks :)

I’ve seen similar functions on other forums.
The one problem I have with this kind of system is that it usually ends up being abused or used for personal vendettas…
If used properly & for its intended purpose it could have a positive effect though

Thanks for the suggestion Ross.
My initial thoughts are that is could easily be abused, and I'm not the biggest fan of 3rd party plug-ins as many are badly designed (from a programming point of view). However, I will definately have a look at this and test it out.
FYI, we are actively looking at ways in which we can improve the current system so any feedback is appreciated on this subject. Although we are busy on the next Mobiles24.com "release", all suggestions are noted and discussed.
Cheers

Well i think it's had alot of time to developed as i have been using vBulletin forums for about 3 years (Give or take a few months) now and they never seem to show any errors. However i do agree about the abuse but surely that could be helped with a few extra moderators?
New release eh?
Sounds exciting
Thank you :)

Just my thought - useless - bad idea ......
Thanks for your suggestion Ross. Although, instead of a reputation system, I think a thank you system would be more suitable.

I'm aware that my advice and comments are usually less than helpful, but I agree with Karl. A thank you system would be better as you cannot really abuse it. Unless you want to thank someone into depression.
Will the reward points maybe be linked to the amount of "thank yous"?

Hear, hear!
I think this would be a lot more constructive than rating a fellow “user” :D
While we’re on the topic of thank you & feedback…
How about a feedback field for the rating of themes & ring tones?
It would enable us to see why we get a certain ratings on the content we upload, positive or negative.

That is a good idea. Then we'll see how many pervs (:o) like me there are out there.:laugh:
But I agree. Good idea. Wish I was that clever.

Nice suggestion, but again, it could easily be abused.

Do you mean a comment type system? If so, I would like to implement such a system, but I've shied away from it because of it's potential for misuse. Or have I misunderstood you?
Thanks for all the feedback guys!

That’s exactly what I’m suggesting Mark.
I do realise that it’ll be more work for you administrators as you’d have to keep an eye on & moderate the comments posted.
Thanks for all the feedback guys!
No problem, trying to be constructive here :D

I didn't write that second one :P
I understand that people can (and probably will) misuse all these features, but isn't there a way to "punish" them for it if they do? Like a two day ban or something...
Just a thought. Because all these suggestions are really good and it's a shame that us decent people  have to suffer the consequences of others...

I work with Vbulletin forums for people installing and setting up and im sure the Reputaion system is built into the forum already it isnt a mod and can be setup so member can leave a member reputation once and have to spread it about abit untill the next time.
It is indeed and something I forgot when the thread was created. However, I still feel a "thank you" system is more appropriate. I fear giving people the option to dish out bad rep will only generate a negative environment and I'm certain some will choose to abuse the system. In fact, I'm not really sure why somebody would want to give bad rep.
As for launching it as I know it's been a while.. I'm hoping to have something in place in the next couple of weeks. I have another development on at the moment (for mobiles24.com), but that's taking a little longer than initially hoped.

Now that's not nice :(
Don't you think I have feelings? :P
Back on topic:
We currently have a system on our uploads that allow people to rate it. I think it should be mandatory to leave a comment if you rate an upload...
If this function gets used constructively it would allow us to improve our content :D

It's possible the "other" development won't be ready before Christmas, however, I'm confident that we will implement one or two important updates before then, at least one of which will add to/improve the current reward system.

This is something under consideration. I'm not sure if should be mandatory though, because we would have pretty unnecessary comments like "good upload" etc, when 4 stars already equals good. I'm thinking we could interconnect this with a comment system.

My think here was that if you feel a rating is appropriate. Then surely a comment is as well...
In other words: If you want to assign a rating, you should leave a comment...
